80% say they're likely to vote....

 CALGARY -- With incumbent Dave Bronconnier not running and a slew of candidates vying to replace him in the mayor's chair, there is hope October's civic election will bring more voters to the polls.

But even with an open mayoral horse race in its favour, vote experts don't expect turnout in this election to dramatically improve or overshadow what has become a chronic problem of poor voter participation in municipal elections.

Mayoral Candidates Talk Sustainability

POLITICS • A group of organizations focused on developing resilient communities is hosting an evening with mayoral candidates designed to foster sustainable politics Sept. 22 at the Central branch of the Calgary Public Library.

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Make it Good, Calgary Public Library, REAP Business Association and other community partners are hosting “My vote could have changed that.” Guest speaker Michael Shermer will begin the night with a talk about how people think and the way they make decisions. He will show how the brain fools itself and how it gets fooled by others.
